Consultation Paper on ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Fourteenth Edition and AR-DRG V13.0 Development

Overview

IHACPA is inviting feedback on Australia’s admitted care classifications and coding standards.

The consultation includes ICD‑10‑AM/ACHI/ACS Fourteenth Edition and AR‑DRG Version 13.0 (V13.0), as well as priority areas for future classification development.

Feedback is welcome from hospitals, clinicians, health information managers, clinical coders, government departments and agencies and the public.

Your feedback will help inform national classification development and support quality health care across Australia.

Have your say

We are seeking feedback across several key areas, including:

  • ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Fourteenth Edition
  • AR-DRG V13.0
  • priority areas for future ACHI and AR‑DRG development.

ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS includes the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD‑10‑AM), Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) and Australian Coding Standards (ACS).

Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (AR‑DRG) classify admitted patient episodes into clinically meaningful groups with similar expected levels of hospital resource use.

The classifications support nationally consistent reporting of admitted patient care and inform hospital funding, planning, monitoring, analysis and health data quality.

We encourage you to share your feedback on the questions outlined in the consultation paper.

Tips for making a submission

1. Provide information about yourself and your role in the sector

This helps us to better understand your perspective and area of interest.

2. Focus on your area of expertise or specific area of interest

You do not need to answer all consultation questions. Good submissions often focus on a single area and all submissions are valuable to us.

3. Provide evidence to support your recommendations, if possible

Responses that are well-reasoned and supported by references or data are the most effective.

What happens next

IHACPA will use feedback on ICD‑10‑AM/ACHI/ACS Fourteenth Edition and AR‑DRG V13.0 to identify any implementation risks, challenges or support needs.

We will use feedback on future priorities to inform planning and prioritisation for future classification development cycles.

We will also consider whether submissions identify other issues or opportunities for future updates to Australia’s admitted care classifications.

We will not contact everyone who makes a submission, but we will ensure all submissions are recorded, reviewed and considered as part of classification development and future planning.
