The Future of IHACPA Classifications

Closes 7 Nov 2025

Opened 8 Oct 2025

Overview

IHACPA has released the Consultation Paper on The Future of IHACPA Classifications. We invite you to have your say, with public consultation now open.

Our classifications underpin activity based funding (ABF) and are instrumental in enabling consistent reporting, performance measurement, health service research and clinical information management.

The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Eleventh Revision (ICD-11) is a clinically current and modern digital classification.

Have your say

Our consultation covers many areas related to the implementation of ICD-11, including:

    • implications for current development of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM)
    • impact on Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups and other ABF classifications that use ICD-10-AM
    • opportunities to align and integrate IHACPA’s classifications.

The online survey includes all 12 questions from the consultation paper. You need only respond to questions of interest or relevance to you. You do not need to respond to all questions.

We have also included some questions that seek information about you, your role and your perspective. Answers to these questions will help us to further understand your responses.

We ask you to provide your name and email contact details so that we may contact you if we have any questions about your feedback.

Read the consultation paper.

What happens next

By having your say, you can help us determine how best to progress our work and ensure the implementation is collaborative, transparent and responsive to stakeholder needs.

We will use the feedback gathered to:

  • understand stakeholder views on the implementation of ICD-11
  • identify any risks, challenges or support required in implementing ICD-11
  • ensure IHACPA’s classifications continue to meet the needs of Australia’s healthcare system
  • seek feedback on opportunities to align IHACPA’s classifications using ICD-11.
